Pine&Cocoa
Chocolate for Wildlife Conservation
packaging | illustration
Pine&Cocoa is a chocolate brand that dedicates a portion of their profits to Conservation Northwest, a local nonprofit organization who specializes in wildlife conservation.
Challenge
This is a very vulnerable time for wildlife and efforts for conservation. How might we create a design that would appeal to the local populace of the PNW to raise awareness and spread interest for the cause?
Solution
Appeal to the audience with "local loyalty" through digestible, story-driven, informative content. Catch the eye with vibrant jewel tones and simple illustrations of animals native to the PNW, and incorporate pieces from their habitats as design elements.
Timeframe: 6 weeks

The goal was to create a "scene" with the illustration: the native animal in its natural habitat.

ESC's Original Design

ESC's NEW Design
Research
Endangered Species Chocolate would be a direct competitor. I decided to take the approach of taking what I felt were flaws in their (outdated) design and solving it in my own (in Pine&Cocoa).
While ESC's design is polished and appealing, the consumer must open (and buy!) the packaging to get to the meat of the story and understand the cause.

Moodboard
Giftable (to justify price point), decorative, charming. I decided to take inspiration from how animals are drawn in Nordic folk art and picture books to further elevate the storytelling element in the design.
